September 2017

“Today is a good day.” That is how we came to be greeted to the sacred fire every morning at Oceti Sakowin. Rain, snow, sunshine, intermingled with threats from a line of force prepared to do us harm. Still we pursued and persisted: Today is a good day! Wake up.

In this time when it appears that power and false righteousness are determined to undermine humanity and the earth, there is a need for those who can to stand and proclaim: “Today is a good day. We are here. We have choices to make. We have love in our hearts. We have knowing in our conviction.”

This is and has been the effort and the essence of Echo Valley Farm. To provide a refuge where people of good will can come and learn from the land and one another. The time of rugged individualism is over. The time of kindness is upon us.

We have nearly completed our transformation here at Echo Valley Farm. It is a step toward greater sustainability. It is a step toward recognizing the gifts of this land and striving to live in good reciprocity with it and all life. It is a time for community.

We will continue to explore and participate in the creation of new/old ways of simple living and peace. As always, you are welcome.

Echo Valley Hope presents Critical Thinking and Choice
Oct. 21, Nov. 18, Dec. 16, Jan. 20, Feb. 17, Mar. 17
at Echo Valley Farm in Ontario, WI

A chance to gather each month to consider: What is our relationship to others and all life? What is the time on the clock of the world?* And, as individuals and collectively, what are the choices and actions we can take "to make a better world"?**

We will meet the third Saturday of each month from October 2017 through March, 2018. You are welcome to one or all of the six gatherings. Sessions will run from 10AM until noon, break for lunch, and reconvene from 1PM to 3PM, or as long as needed. There is no cost. A free will donation to Echo Valley Hope will be appreciated.

For those coming from far away, there are accommodations available: 608-337-4578

Some considerations worth exploring:
The perspective of Vimala Thakur on the need for activism and peace to come together remains an important understanding of our time.

* Question famously asked by James Boggs. For more thoughtful introspection, you can read Bogg's The American Revolution: Pages From a Negro Worker's Notebook.

** Entire quote, from the Dalai Lama: "Critical thinking followed by actions. Discern what your world is. Know the plot of your life of this human drama and figure out where your talents might fit in to make a better world."
