October 2017

We have made it to harvest. And how sweet it is.
The circumstances of life have dealt some interesting twists and turns this summer, but we have weathered the “storms” and are on course to enjoy a lovely winter – whatever comes! Big thanks to the WWOOFers and the wonderful intern who helped us through!

Our hearts go out to those still struggling from hurricanes, flooding, earthquakes, and human ignorance. It is not enough to blast the governments and the bureaucracies that continue to mire existence; it is time to create and to be part of new possibilities and new ways of living together.

Echo Valley Farm is available to those who are willing to dream a different sort of dream. It is a dream built on love of the earth and of one another. It is a dream that stands in defiance of the madness our world has so readily accepted as normal. Does it take an effort? You bet. But it is worth every drop.

We have room for interns and people wanting to give community farming a try. We are an experiment in cooperative living and putting peace first, not last, as a choice. Most importantly, we are citizens of this world, and we have a right to say, “Enough is enough.” We recognize the good works of many people throughout the world who are also living this dream. We believe it is time to meet one another, to help one another, and to allow, for once, the voice of practical and sustainable peace to be heard and to be felt.

Don’t let anyone tell you it is not possible. Harvest the possibilities of Good. Harvest love. Harvest clarity. It is all there waiting for you.

Drying Shed

What goes up must come down... On Saturday, October 28 and Sunday, October 29, Andy McClain will be on hand to help deconstruct the drying shed. The land that we were renting has been sold, and the building must come down.

Time to help? Echo Valley Farm, Wisconsin hospitality promised.

Gather each month to consider: What is our relationship to others and all life? What is the time on the clock of the world?* And, as individuals and collectively, what are the choices and actions we can take "to make a better world"?**

Sessions will run from 10AM until noon, break for lunch, and reconvene from 1PM to 3PM, or as long as needed. There is no cost. A free will donation to Echo Valley Hope will be appreciated. You are welcome to one or all of the six gatherings.

For more information, call 608-337-4578

Some considerations worth exploring:
The perspective of Vimala Thakur on the need for activism and peace to come together remains an important understanding of our time.

* Question famously asked by James Boggs. For more thoughtful introspection, you can read Bogg's The American Revolution: Pages From a Negro Worker's Notebook.

** Entire quote, from the Dalai Lama: "Critical thinking followed by actions. Discern what your world is. Know the plot of your life of this human drama and figure out where your talents might fit in to make a better world."
